Easter Blessings from the Heart

I am sitting at home this evening and keep thinking about tomorrow being Easter and the blessings we have.

With today's world of unusual challenges including a pandemic, schools/colleges closing, massive unemployment and shortages of certain foods and paper products, it is even more important that we count our blessings and look for ways to help others.

Many have more time at home with social distancing and tend to dwell on issues and ponder on problems.  When we learn about what others are struggling with many times it puts our own issues into perspective.  Give consideration to the person recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, think about a family who has lost a loved one, consider the impact a horrible and tragic incident such employment loss or accident has on a family and it often greatly minimizes our own struggles.

Let's count our blessings and find ways to encourage others to remain positive, strong and keep pushing forward.

For me, I have been very blessed with a wonderful life, amazing family and very rewarding job as your sheriff.  About 4 years ago I could have passed from this world but I chose to not give up.  My family, friends and coworkers never gave up.  Prayers and faith worked.  I have a clean bill of health and my doctors will tell you I can do anything!  After waking from the coma I could have chose to give up but that is not what I wanted.  My goals were to be better a man, healthier and stronger than ever before.  This was my faith, family, my job and myself so I could continue helping others.

I am also blessed to work with a great group of people at the LCSO and to have a great working relationship with so many law enforcement officers, organizations and citizens.  I am very thankful to work in such a great community and for many amazing people with such great support.

In law enforcement we see so many negative things.  We try to help and/or encourage others we have contact with and many we are able to help move forward.

One thing that is always rewarding and does not cost anything is your willingness to help others.  A simple phone call, card, or posting a positive comment can mean so much to someone and can often make such a difference in that persons day, week or even  life. Do what is right, give thanks, count your blessings and look for those opportunities to help others.

What are your blessings?  Think again, I bet you count a few more.

Have a very blessed Easter!
