Message from Sheriff Cox for July 2023

We are hopeful everyone had a fun and safe Independence Day and great time at the Livingston County Fair.  Summer vacations are in full swing and many people on the roadways for all the more reason to drive safely.

Our staff has been really busy working on criminal and fugitive investigations, assisting other agencies, assisting motorists and transient people, handling court, serving court process and jail/prisoner issues.  The frequency of traffic complaints coming in is sometimes overwhelming.  I am curious what 36 highway will be like when I-70 construction begins to make it 6 lane interstate.

We are a little more than half way through our county budget year and I am pleased to report our overall budget numbers for the LCSO look great.  Our Jail board budget shows we have only used 38.29% through June 30, leaving us with a line item balance of $502,933.  Fuel is a big issue in many agencies, fortunately we have spent only 40.56% on this line item which leaves us $32,095 for the next six months.  I also believe all of our county officials have done an excellent job with their budgets and wisely working with your tax dollars.

Our staff does an amazing job and we greatly appreciate each and every employee we have.  With that being said we have one deputy who has really excelled in daily work performance and I would like to commend Deputy Taylor West for doing an excellent job each and every day she works.  Deputy West is great with people, always willing to help others, leaves positive impressions and is 100% geared towards community safety.

Remember is it summer and hot days/nights are tough on pets and livestock.  Please make time to care for your animals.  Check your fencing and gates, especially after storms.  Help us help you.

Respectfully,

Steve Cox
