Personal Note from the Sheriff

02/02/2024

It is hard to believe I am in my 24th year as your sheriff and will soon be starting my 40th year as a full time law enforcement officer in this community.  With that I want to express my extreme gratitude and appreciation to each of you for allowing me to have served here for so many years, along with your kindness and support.  I have been fortunate to have worked with many truly great and wonderful people.  With that said I will be retiring from the position of sheriff at the end of this year.

Law Enforcement work is very demanding and takes significant effort while requiring excessive time away from your loved ones.  I very much look forward to uninterrupted time with my immediate family and friends and taking the next steps forward with life.

I want to thank many of our Livingston County elected officials as we have amazing judges, an excellent county commission, wonderful and professional people in our county and state government.  Most of all I want to thank my wife, Beth, our children, and my amazing co-workers at the LCSO.  These are truly some of the best people you will ever meet.

As it is election year, with filing for sheriff and other county offices opening February 27, I felt the time was right to share this news with everyone.  I am very proud and confident in leaving you with very well trained, committed, and outstanding employees at the LCSO who are capable and competent.  I know of one staff member who will be filing for this election and I'll let that person make their own public announcement.

Again, thank you for your past, present and future support of this office and myself.  I truly appreciate you way more than you will ever know.

Respectfully,

Steve Cox
