Jail Population Jumped

04/10/2024

Recently the Livingston County Sheriff's Office has realized a significant jump in detainee numbers.  Late last week we hit 58 total detainees in custody with 22 of those being female detainees.

Sheriff Cox and Captain Sindy Thomas reports 22 women in custody is most likely the most female detainees at one time in the history of our office.

Before the jail in Livingston County closed the Sheriff and Captain Thomas reports that jail had reached a population of 76 detainees in custody, all in a 48 bed jail.

We continue working with area counties on holding our detainees and even with the increased numbers it is still a huge overall savings for Livingston County Tax Payers.

A big reason for the jump in numbers of detainees is defendants on bond allegedly violating their bond and being re-arrested, new criminal acts, drugs (which is mostly methamphetamine related), and mental health issues.
