Deputy attempts to arrest fugitive who flees then points handgun at deputy!

07/13/2019

Saturday, July 13, 2019 about 4:20 p.m. a Livingston County Deputy was in western Livingston County and saw a person on a motorcycle believed to be a felony fugitive. The suspect on the motorcycle began traveling at well over 100 mph on U.S. 36 near Mooresville. When the suspect was west of Mooresville he quickly braked and turned around going east on U.S. 36 and then fled into Mooresville. The suspect pulled into the yard of a church in Mooresville and was then appeared to be changing direction when he lost control of the motorcycle at low speed. The fugitive then ran approximately 150-200 yards with the deputy chasing on foot.

The suspect was in possession of a soft nylon style carry bag and quickly turned pointing what the deputy believed was a handgun at the deputy (the item the suspect had in his hand was inside the bag). The deputy was readily armed and the suspect made the correct decision and threw the same bag into a large area of tall weeds. The suspect was arrested and complained of chest pain and an ambulance was then summoned.

Another deputy and the sheriff arrived on scene to assist and secured the area. Missouri State Highway Patrol was called to investigate the motorcycle accident. Deputy Leadbetter and K-9 Zaki were summoned to the scene to conduct an article search in the tall weeds.

Chillicothe Department of Emergency Services arrived and provided treatment then transported the suspect to Hedrick Medical Center with a deputy guarding.

Zaki arrived and did his job in quickly marking the location of evidence. Officers recovered a fully loaded handgun from the same bag, used digital scale, meth pipe with methamphetamine, and other items. Additional evidence being cash was seized at the scene and at the hospital.

The suspect is being treated at Hedrick at this time but may be transferred to a hospital in the city. All concerning information including possible ingestion was shared with ambulance and hospital staff to aid the emergency treatment. Information has been shared with a parent and of the suspect. Identity of suspect is not yet being released in respect to family and friends. Additional information will be released on July 15.

The suspect has an outstanding felony arrest warrant. A report will be submitted to the prosecuting attorney for consideration of additional charges. Investigation is continuing. Fortunately no firearm was discharged by anyone and no one else was injured.
