January 06 the LCSO attempted to arrest a fugitive located in a residence in Chillicothe. The suspect refused to answer the door for quite some time. Investigation led officers to believe a person in the home was hindering prosecution as they knew our office was attempting to serve an arrest warrant on a specific person. Report being submitted to the prosecuting attorney.
January 06 we recovered a front end weight from a tractor that was found in the highway. It may be claimed at the LCSO.
January 06 about 5:30 a.m. the LCSO responded to a call of an abandoned vehicle in the middle of Highway C east of LIV 433. Our office had the vehicle towed as the owner or driver could not be located. Further investigation continues.
January 09 the LCSO travelled to another county on a child abuse/child sex offense investigation for interview.
January 09 the LCSO responded to a location north of Chillicothe on a vehicle fire. The Chillicothe Rural Fire Department was on scene and the vehicle was off the roadway. Vehicle owner was aware of the situation.
January 09 the LCSO conducted a death investigation in western Livingston County. Preliminary investigation suggests the elderly man passed due to natural causes. We were assisted by the Livingston County Coroner's Office and Chillicothe Department of Emergency Services. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family and friends.
January 10 we assisted Trenton Police on a theft investigation. We located and interviewed to people in southern Livingston County and that information was shared with Trenton PD.
January 11 the LCSO conducted a check at a rural residence on report a family member was concerned about the adult. Contact was made and no information/evidence was found to support additional services.
January 13 the LCSO completed an investigation of a Sex Offender Registration Violation. Suspect reportedly moved from registered address without notifying law enforcement as required. Later advised LCSO moved out of state but allegedly failed to register in that jurisdiction in a timely manner. Report being submitted to prosecuting attorney for consideration.
January 15 our office investigated a suspicious vehicle partially on private property north west of Chillicothe. The home owner was concerned and contacted us. Investigation shows another vehicle arrived and occupants reported they were repairing the van and would remove it. One person was found to be on probation/parole and two people were found to be in possession of marijuana. No enforcement action was taken and information shared with the probation/parole office.
January 16 the LCSO conducted two separate methamphetamine investigations in Wheeling. Multiple people were interviewed, evidence obtained and multiple investigations are continuing.

January 14, Jackson County authorities arrested Hazel C. Miller, 23, Blue Summit, on Livingston County arrest warrant for alleged Violation of Bond Conditions on original class D felony Tampering with Motor Vehicle-1st degree, class E felony Resisting Arrest/Detention/Stop and class D felony Possession of Controlled Substance. Ms. Miller was extradited to Daviess Dekalb Regional Jail. Ms. Miller has been a fugitive since December 06, 2019.
January 15 authorities in Clay County arrested Mathew Jeffery Pike, 37, Liberty on Livingston County arrest warrant for alleged Probation Violation on class E felony DWI-Persistent Offender. Mr. Pike has been a fugitive since January 06, 2020 and will be extradited by LCSO at first opportunity.
January 15 we took Nathaniel W. Watkins, 34, Kansas City into custody on Livingston County arrest warrant and at Judge's request for alleged violation of bond conditions. Mr. Watkins is the person who allegedly fled from LCSO and MSHP on December 31, 2019 including driving at high rates of speed in the wrong direction on U.S. 36. The Court has added another felony count allegation against Mr. Watkins for alleged Driving While Revoked. Mr. Watkins was transferred to the Daviess Dekalb Regional Jail.
January 08 Zaki and Deputy Leadbetter were summoned to a traffic stop by the Chillicothe Police. Zaki did a free-air sniff and indicated the odor of drug(s) present. Further investigation resulted in seizure of large bag of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. See CPD for additional information.
January 10 Zaki and Deputy Leadbetter were summoned to a location by the Chillicothe Police due to a suspected suicidal person armed with a hatchet. The person was not cooperating with the officer's verbal commands and finally dropped the hatchet when informed he was about to either get Tazed or taken down by Zaki. See CPD for additional information.
January 13 night a deputy made a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle. Stop resulted in Zaki and Deputy Leadbetter being summoned to the scene where Zaki alerted to the odor of drug(s) being present. Officers seized methamphetamine drug paraphernalia and distribution equipment. Investigation supports a female not in the vehicle is most likely the owner of the items and she was in Columbia MO. The driver was on probation for a methamphetamine violation and his probation officer has been notified of the incident. Investigation continues.
January 14 a Bogard driver was stopped on U.S. 65 in Chillicothe for expired September license plates. A citation was issued for that violation and warning given for a different violation.
January 15 a citation was issued to a driver for not having auto insurance on their vehicle.
January 13 a person had created a disturbance in the Courthouse and left the building. Later the LCSO received Court orders to transfer the subject to a facility and the LCSO along with Chillicothe Police located and ultimately detained the subject. Transport was completed without further incident.
January 14 a vehicle was broken down on Highway C south of U.S. 36. The vehicle was towed.
LCSO has been working with our prosecuting attorney, Cole County Sheriff and Court on jail detainee issue and criminal case proceeding.
January 15 the LCSO had 6 detainees appear in Associate Court before Judge Michael Leamer.
January 16 the LCSO has 33 people in custody at this time.
LCSO have multiple active criminal and fugitive investigations taking place. Our staff has remained very busy with this and assisting other agencies with information, investigation and enforcement actions.
