This past week a deputy was assigned to assist the Chillicothe PD on a possible sex offense involving one or more minors. The exact location of the reported crime had not yet been determined. The matter remains under investigation at this time.
On March 05 a deputy assisted the Chillicothe PD in the investigation of the well being of a juvenile and a possible suicidal parent. The investigation led us to the western part of Livingston County where the parent and child were found. The adult has been provided care and treatment while the child was subsequently returned to the other parent. A report has been submitted to Livingston County Prosecuting Attorney Adam Warren for review.
Deputies are continuing with an investigation of stolen cattle and calves from the southern part of Livingston County. An estimated 4 cows and 10 calves were reported stolen from a lot.
Area law enforcement had been investigating the whereabouts of a wanted fugitive who was believed to be hiding in the Dawn area and had information the person was believed to be armed and would direct significant violence towards law enforcement if approached. The Missouri State Highway Patrol and members of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and Caldwell County Sheriffs Office responded to a home in or near
Dawn the morning of March 05. After a short standoff the officers arrested Jeffery S. Griffith, 40, St. Joseph, on a Platte County felony arrest warrant for alleged Resisting Arrest. Mr. Griffith had misdemeanor warrant(s) from Buchanan County as well. A female was detained by the MSHP. (Chief Deputy Claypole released this information to the media.)
On March 01 we took a report of a lost or stolen cellular phone. The victim lives in the North West portion of Livingston County. Information was obtained on the cell phone company.
On March 06 we arrested Elizabeth Ann Leatherman, 31, Chillicothe on a Livingston County arrest warrant for alleged 2 counts class C felony of passing bad checks $500 or more in value or no account/insufficient funds. Ms. Leatherman surrendered to the LCSO and was able to post bond.
On March 04 we served a Livingston County arrest warrant on Dustin R. Johnson, 28, Sumner, on a Livingston County arrest warrant for alleged class D felony Non Support. Mr. Johnson was incarcerated in the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail in lieu of $9,242.00 cash bond.
On March 02 a deputy was stationary in Chula and made a vehicle stop on a speeding vehicle. A 24 year old Chillicothe man was cited for allegedly driving while suspended. The deputy helped the man get back to Chillicothe.
Deputy Matt Ahal recently attended recertification in repairing Glock firearms. Deputy Ahal inspects and repairs law enforcement weapons.
This past week Sheriff Steve Cox attended mandatory training with the Missouri Sheriffs Association. Missouri Sheriffs were in attendance where a large variety of information was obtained.
Currently we have 37 people in custody at the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail. We have received internal reports recently regarding one or more of our detainees allegedly attempting to smuggle contraband into the facility and acting aggressive to other detainee(s).
