The Livingston County Clerk has submitted the Expenditures Report as of March 31, 2013. This report shows the current status of the Livingston County Jail budget as having only used 19.47% of our 2013 budget. Fixed budget line items show that 25% of the budget has been used during the same time period meaning we are approximately 5.53% under budget for the quarter. The budget approved by the County Commission for the 2013 Jail expenses was $361,900 for Prisoner Boarding and we have a standing balance of $291,441.58 in that line item at this time.
The Livingston County Jail was closed in December 2012 as Livingston County is financially unable to fund required repairs to the jail before addressing adequate staffing issues. The joint decision was made to house Livingston County detainees in the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail and periodically report on the situation.
A current concern which is not reflected on the current budget expenditures report is that our recent inmate population has jumped to nearly 49 people in custody. We have no control over the number of people which chose to make bad life decisions, commit criminal acts, violate bond conditions, or not adhere to their probation/parole obligations.
