Yesterday the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office sent mail to 450 Livingston County residents to inform them they have been selected to the next Jury Pool for our county.  The questionnaire needs to be completed and returned to Livingston County Circuit Clerk Brenda Wright as directed.  Hopefully the 450 people will view this as a stroke of luck and may want to consider buying a Lottery or Powerball ticket this week!

Our office is working with the Chillicothe R-II School Board, School Resource Officer Mike Lewis, and the Livingston County Commission in regard to our desire to apply for an open COPS Grant opportunity.  We approached the area school systems about ability to pay for the match funds required for 3 years to hire a deputy if awarded the COPS Grant that would be assigned as a school resource officer.  Livingston County does not have the funds available to provide for the match but we all understand the need of additional School Resource Officer in our community.  Chillicothe R-II has tentatively agreed to partner with us for this grant purpose and if awarded the deputy would be assigned as a second school resource officer and commissioned under Sheriff Steve Cox at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.  Chief Deputy Michael Claypole has been assigned the duties of this grant application.  On May 23rd, Sheriff Cox received permission from the Livingston County Commission to apply for this COPS Grant.

We recently took a report of Identity Theft from a Chula resident.  The victim learned they had their identity unlawfully used to open credit account(s) in another state.  Investigation continues.

We are working on a report of a stolen shotgun from a rural location in Livingston County.  We have identified a suspect and are seeking additional information at this time.

A dog bite investigation has been concluded in Utica.  Recently a juvenile was attempting to get to the school bus and reported being attacked by dog(s).  The juvenile was treated at Hedrick Medical Center and we have spoken with the alleged animal owner and issued that person a citation for alleged Animal Abuse 1st Offense by failing to maintain control of animal(s) which caused injury to a child.  We have also notified the Department of Health as mandated.

Deputy Sheriff/School Resource Officer Mike Lewis has filed a report in our office regarding alleged sexual misconduct by a juvenile student towards other juvenile students at an area school.  The parents, school, and juvenile authorities are involved in this regarding administrative action and possible charges.

Deputy Sheriff/School Resource Officer Mike Lewis filed a report in our office regarding alleged stealing by two students on a recent field trip to the Harley Davidson plant in Kansas City.  The two students are juveniles and the parents, juvenile officer, and school are now involved in the disposition of the incident.
