Incidents/Investigations and Arrests

With regards to the death investigation from June 18 we are now able to release the name of the deceased.  Kevin L. Geyer, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene of the unattended death north west of Chillicothe.  At this time there is nothing suggesting foul play was involved however our investigation continues.

Please share our thoughts and prayers for the family, friends, and loved ones.

On June 17 our office began investigating a report of fraud where a rural resident was scammed out of $1,550 dollars.  The scammer somehow convinced our citizen they had won a large sum of money from a foreign country and needed to wire them money to get the process started.  The criminals requested an additional $5,000 be wired to them and unsuccessful attempts were made to complete this transaction.  Fortunately the scammers did not receive additional money from this victim.

The best practice if you receive these emails, postal delivery, or even telephone calls is to ignore it.  These people will continue harassing you until they get the last possible dime from you and will never deliver any money, goods, or show up to pickup a purchase.

June 17 we began an investigation of stolen tack from a person in the north east part of Livingston County.  Sometime since April someone has stolen 2 saddles from a barn.  Investigation continues.

June 17 we investigated a report of trash dumping near railroad tracks on Liv 247.  Information was obtained as to who may own or have dumped the trash and a call was made to that person.  It was learned they dumped the trash and were already out of state but they agreed to have a family member clean up the trash.  Confirmation was made the pile has since been cleaned up.

June 16 we investigated a report of a domestic disturbance outside of Chillicothe.  The investigation shows the female allegedly slapped the male after requesting he remove his property from the home.  There were no apparent injuries and request of no prosecution.

June 14 we began an investigation of tampering with a vehicle and theft from an outbuilding on Liv 515.  The victim reported finding where unknown person(s) removed copper battery cables from 2 tractors, about 30 feet of ½ inch copper tubing, and stole about 50 feet of copper wiring.  Investigation continues.

June 13 we received notice from a citizen who left their vehicle unattended at the Thompson River at the west end of 3rd Street and returned to discover her purse had been removed from the trunk of the car.  Personal items and a small amount of money were stolen.  Investigation continues.

June 12 we investigated a report of property damage to the front door of a residence on Liv 238.  The report shows the company allegedly responsible for the accidental damage is taking care of the matter.
