Recent Incidents, Arrests, and Other Information


The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office has been extremely busy with a variety of new and on-going criminal investigations, assisting other agencies, calls for service, and other issues.


September 12 we began an investigation of identity theft as a law enforcement agency on the East Coast has reported a large scale identity theft group in their area and one of those suspects has given the identity of a Livingston County resident.  We are working on contacting that person as they are most likely unaware of being a victim of identity theft.  Investigation continues.


On September 12th we began an investigation of Violation of Protection Order and Peace Disturbance as a local person allegedly confronted the victim outside of the Courthouse.  Investigation continues.


On the early morning hours of September 12 a deputy and trooper stopped a vehicle in the north part of Livingston County which was loaded with scrap metal.  Two male occupants were identified and allegedly gave conflicting stories on where the scrap metal came from.  We are seeking information from anyone recently missing scrap metal or other items to report any thefts. 


September 10 we received a report of lost or stolen handgun within last 30 days from the Avalon area.  Firearm is described as a Springfield XD, .40 caliber, handgun that is olive green in color with a black colored slide.  Investigation continues.


On the evening of September 10 we investigated a report of an assault to an adult female and theft of that person’s medication in the Ludlow area.  Investigation provides evidence that neither incident took place.

Deputy Sheriff/School Resource Officer Mike Lewis filed a report with our office that on or about 9-10-13 two students were involved in possible Internet postings/text messages/emails regarding possible threats of violence between the two or within a small group of people.  School Officials, Juvenile Authorities, and Parents were notified and the situation was handled appropriately.

September 09 we began an investigation of theft of three firearms from a locked gun safe at a residence in Ludlow.  The investigation shows a possible domestic disturbance and one person allegedly forcing entry into the gun safe and taking the firearms to a location in Chillicothe where the items were given as collateral to a private citizen for a 2 month loan.  The firearms have been recovered and will be returned to the rightful owner.  The suspect is being sought for questioning at this time.


September 09 we began an investigation of property damage to a parked vehicle at 65 and Highway H.  The GMC pickup had well over $5,000 in damage done to it by unknown vandal(s).  Investigation continues.


On September 08 a deputy and trooper forced entry into a home in the northern part of Livingston County after relatives and other reliable information created concern for the well being of the occupants inside.  The two adults were found sleeping and not in need of medical attention.


Evening of September 07 we checked on a report of a vehicle on fire near U.S. 36 and Liv 401.  Vehicle fire was determined to have been from mechanical issue and the occupants had safely exited the vehicle. 


September 06 we began an investigation of alleged assault which reportedly took place the night before in Ludlow.  Two men were identified as persons of interested and we later arrested Charles Russell Riddle, 51, and David L. Kirkpatrick, 55, both from Ludlow  and both for alleged assault.


September 05 we investigated a report of Domestic Disturbance in Chula.  All parties were interviewed and no arrests made.  Both persons separated for the night.


On September 05 we investigated a report of a stolen computer tablet from a location in Ludlow.  Investigation resulted in the recovery of the item and the owner did not wish to prosecute due to living out of state.


On September 04 a report of vicious dog(s) was checked on in Wheeling.  The deputy issued the dog owner a citation for alleged failing to maintain control of an animal. 


On September 09 we served a Livingston County arrest warrant on Athena Rose Chandler, 33, Chillicothe, for alleged Bond Supervision Violation on original charge of felony Theft/Stealing and misdemeanor Making a False Declaration.  Bond was set at $10,000.  Ms. Chandler was transferred to the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail.


On September 08 a deputy issued two 19 year old Trenton men citations for speeding at the Chula Junction.  One citation was for 60 in a 60 and the other was for 85 in a 60. 


Currently we are holding 39 detainees in the Daviess Dekalb County Jail, 15 of which are female detainees.

Reminder that all persons are innocent unless and until proven guilty in a Court of Law.  A mere arrest and/or arrest warrant is merely an allegation and nothing more.
