Investigations, Arrests and Other Information

Yesterday we assisted the Chillicothe Police on an investigation with unusual behavior towards a child from a stranger at a local business.  We are continuing with follow-up investigation on this incident today. (CPD will have any additional details)

April 11 deputies responded to a call of a possible domestic violence near U.S. 36 and the Grand River.  The out of state couple had apparently been arguing and the male stopped the car and took off running into the timber.  Deputies did not obtain any evidence or information of any crime other than trespassing.

April 12 we received a report of a stolen handgun from a location in Chula.  The firearm is reported to be a Rock Island Armory 1911A1 .45 caliber black in color full size handgun.  Investigation continues.

April 16 we served 2 Livingston County arrest warrants after receiving a fugitive from the Linn County Sheriff.  Arrested was Leonard Eugene Stumph, 61, Dawn for alleged Failure to Appear in Court on violation of an order of protection and a second warrant for alleged violation of a protection order-2nd offense.   Mr. Stumph was transferred to the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail.

April 15 we served a Livingston County arrest warrant on Jeffrey W. Huffman, 42, Dawn for alleged Probation Violation on original conviction of class C felony Stealing a Motor Vehicle.  The Court denied bond and Mr. Huffman was transferred to the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail.

April 15 School Resource Officer/Deputy Sheriff Mike Lewis filed a report in our office of an incident at the Alternative School where a student allegedly was in possession of a switchblade type knife.  There were no reported threats associated with the possession but the mere possession is a violation of the safe schools act.  A report is being submitted to the prosecuting attorney and the school is following administrative procedures.

April 15 School Resource Officer/Deputy Sheriff Mike Lewis filed a report with our office regarding an incident at the Chillicothe Middle School where a juvenile allegedly was receiving disciplinary action.  A staff member saw the juvenile allegedly make a writing about a bomb at the school.  Parent(s) have been notified, a report was submitted to the juvenile authorities and the school has taken administrative action.  At no time was there any danger to other students.  The report shows the individual was doing this as a joke.

April 14 we served a Livingston County arrest warrant on Ashley Nicole Allnutt, 21, Chillicothe, for alleged Failure to Obey a Judge’s Order while on bond on original charges of 2 class B misdemeanors for alleged Property Damage 2nd Degree and Trespassing.  Bond was placed at $1,000 and Allnutt was transferred to the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail.

April 14 we began an investigation off reported Identity Theft and unlawful use of a debit card.  The victim reported transactions have been made with her debit card number and the investigation is continuing.

Livingston County Circuit Civil Law Day was April 14 and Circuit Criminal Law Day was April 15.  We provided bailiff and metal detector security both days with criminal law day lasting until about 6:00 p.m.  We had 26 detainees appear in Circuit Criminal Law Day.

April 10 we seized a Kawasaki Prairie ATV from a location near the Grand River where it had been abandoned.  The ATV is possibly stolen and we are still attempting to determine ownership.

An investigation by the LCSO into alleged Witness Tampering on a felony investigation.  The incident allegedly took place by a Livingston County detainee in the Daviess Dekalb County Jail.  Our office received information, documents and evidence from the jail staff.  A report is being submitted to the Daviess County Prosecuting Attorney for consideration.

We currently have 52 detainees in the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail, 13 of which are female.
