On Saturday, July 26, Sheriff Cox received information that a registered sex offender was in Simpson Park in Chillicothe. The on-duty deputy investigated and found a man that is a registered child sex offender in the park. The deputy was advised to complete the investigation and have the prosecuting attorney determine if a felony charge will be filed. The suspect left the park.


August 03 we assisted the Chillicothe Police in locating a run-a-way juvenile from northwest Missouri.


On July 31 a deputy in the east part of the county on U.S. 36 checked a westbound semi at 77 in a 65.  The deputy fell in behind the vehicle and reported seeing the truck continue driving fast in the passing lane.  The deputy attempted to stop the semi with emergency lights and siren.  With the assistance of a different deputy in Utica the vehicle was finally stopped near U.S. 36 and Utica Jct.  The driver was cited for alleged 77 in a 65, failure to keep right and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.


July 30 we obtained information from a citizen of possible sex offense(s) to a child.  Information was obtained and an agency in that jurisdiction was contacted and will complete the investigation.  Our office has offered to assist however we may.


July 29 a deputy investigated a reported domestic violence incident in Chula.  All persons were interviewed and determined no criminal act took place as the matter was verbal in nature.  Parties separated and information exchanged.


July 27 a deputy and trooper investigated a report of an attempt to commit suicide by overdose in rural Livingston County.  EMS assisted in transporting the individual and we hope that all is well now with the individual and family.


July 27 we investigated a report of drug and drug paraphernalia violations after a land lord reported a former renter moved out and left items behind.  Investigation continues.


July 27 a citizen reported their mailbox and post were destroyed in addition to 2 pieces of mail having been stolen.  Investigation continues.  Crime took place in southwest part of county.


July 27 a deputy and CPD officer served a Livingston County arrest warrant in the 800 block of Clay on Austin Dale Leeper, 18, Chillicothe for alleged failing to appear in Livingston County Court on a seat belt citation.  The additional investigation resulted in the alleged seizure of schedule II controlled substance, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  Reports to prosecuting attorney.


July 25 authorities in Carroll County served a Livingston County arrest warrant and we extradited Ashley Marie Liechti, 25, Carrollton on the warrant for alleged failure to appear in court on driving without a valid driver’s license charge.  Bond was initially placed at $250.00.


July 24 a deputy assisted a family with a run-a-way juvenile.  The individual was found in Utica and subsequently turned over to juvenile authorities and family.


Currently we are holding 41 people in custody, 40 in the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail and 1 in Platte County Jail.  That individual was requested to be moved to a more maximum security facility.  That individual has since allegedly physically assaulted a deputy/detention officer since being moved.  Additional charges are pending in Platte County.


LCSO staff has remained busy with a variety of other calls for service, assisting citizens, and assisting other agencies with investigation information.
