Please beware of any contact you receive claiming to be from the IRS or the U.S. Department of Treasury about delinquent taxes or bills. So far all the area residents which have reported this have received calls from a person with foreign accent and seeking to have the intended victim call a case manager to speak further about it or to have the citizen send quick money through various ways to immediately rectify the problem.
One caller was verbally abusive towards an elderly disabled woman and made threats of arrest and to take her home.
All of these calls were a SCAM. They are relentless and are merely trying to steal money from good people.
The best advice is to simply hang up. Do not engage in conversation, do not waste your time, and do not listen to their stories and pressure tactics, just hang up.
If you are an actual victim of a scam, please contact law enforcement immediately. The criminals want you to delay reporting as it minimizes the little opportunity of getting any of your money back.
Be Smart and Be Safe.
