This morning officers from the LCSO and Chillicothe Police spent time searching for a person who was frequently dialing 911 on a cell phone which was directed in an area on the east side of Chillicothe.
After checking several houses a parent soon learned the old cell phone they had given their young child to play with was the source of the 911 calls. The problem was the old cell phone still had an operable battery while and the small child was simply playing with the cell phone.
Not all cell phone companies provide accurate information as to the exact location of a caller to a 911 Center. This one provided a general location and due to the frequency of calls and background noise law enforcement was concerned someone was truly in need of help. Fortunately in this case no one actually needed any public safety response.
However, this is a good lesson for all of us to remove the battery from any old cell phone or cordless telephone when it no longer intended to be used.
