LCSO K-9 Program

In February of this year, Sheriff Cox put a post on Livingston County Sheriff's Office Facebook page and website announcing a campaign to seek donations to start a canine program.  He set a very realistic goal to collect $16,500.00 in two years.  However, something much different happened.  Thanks to the overwhelming public support and the generous people of Livingston County, we have been able to not only meet our goal, but surpass it.  And, in only seven months!  We have collected nearly $22,000.00 in cash and donations of equipment needed to house and train the dog.  This is a true testament to the support our great community has for the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

With great pleasure, we would like to recognize the people who donated to our program.

Without the contributions from these amazing people and their continued support, we would not be able to start this incredible program, that will prove to be an asset to local law enforcement.

The canine we are purchasing will be a dual purpose dog that is trained to alert to the odor of illegal narcotics, not only in vehicles but in buildings, open areas and on persons.  The dog is also trained to track missing persons or suspects, provide officer protection, and apprehension.  The dog is being purchased from K9 Working Dogs International (K9WDI), LLC,. in Longford, Kansas. K9WDI is one of the premier law enforcement canine training facilities in the country.  All of the dogs they selected to be law enforcement animals are bred, raised and begin training in Germany before they are imported to finalize their training.  And, all of their dogs are trained to exceed national standards.

With this program, the Livingston County Sheriff's Office has selected Deputy Chris Mueller as the K-9 handler for our office.    Deputy Mueller went above and beyond with assisting with this program.   Deputy Mueller is a veteran deputy with the Livingston County Sheriff's Office and will be attending handler training in the near future.  Please take time to congratulate Deputy Mueller for his hard work and for being selected for this position and training.

The total purchase price of $18,247.57 includes the cost of the dog, Deputy Mueller's training, deployment and training equipment, and the insert for the Deputy Mueller's patrol vehicle.  The left over money collected will stay in an account to be used solely for our canine program, and will help replace equipment that wears out over time.

We would like to thank everyone who made a donation.  Thank you for your incredible generosity and continued support for your Livingston County Sheriff's Office.
