Something to Think About

Today is October 28 and 5 years ago today about 11:20 a.m. I began the fight of my life, a fight which lasted through late afternoon and continued on for several more weeks.  I had a heart attack that is commonly referred to as the "Widow Maker" type in my back artery this specific heart attack kills around 98% of those who experience it.  I really should not be here but I am and gladly giving 100% each day!

Today I am still doing great, I recently had my annual cardiologist checkup and my doctors remain very impressed with my blood work and still amazed at how I not only survived but how strong I am and not have any damage or loss.

My experience is a perfect example of the power of prayer and what the good Lord above and guardian angels can do.  I remember not knowing where I was, fighting to wake up to see my family and co-workers and even just talk.  It was a fight but one I was not going to lose.

At times every person has been in a dark place.  Some struggle with depression, drugs, relationships, their work, education, or just have a bad day.  Keep your faith, remain strong and never ever give up.  If you want to live, succeed, do better or whatever you can but you need to believe and also believe in yourself.  If you are not a spiritual person you can believe in yourself and push yourself out of any dark place.

I believe everyone has a purpose in life and reason for being here, all of us should look for signs and seek guidance on what we can do.  Maybe it is something as simple as reading a book to a child, doing a random act of kindness for a stranger, or maybe you are here to educate others which prevents something bad from happening in their lives.  It can be anything.  Show others how to care instead of hate, share a contagious smile, do a sneaky surprise for your spouse of significant other, buy a meal for a stranger in the drive-thru, send flowers to a friend and say "Thank You" or make other positive memories.   Or how about sending a card to a relative, former teacher, co-worker, pastor or boss with a note saying how "I appreciate all you taught me in life".

Life is too short, let's not make it even shorter or less pleasant.  Life is full of challenges which I believe are merely tests on what we can do.  Everyone has peaks and valleys in their lives, work, education and abilities so do not be afraid to find out what yours are.  I believe God has plans for all of us, there are reasons for most things and all we can do is watch for the signs provided and do our best.

A sign I saw this week was of some young people taking the time to make and display signs along Washington Street on the dangers of Fentanyl.  Great job!  I applaud you and encourage you to keep sharing that message!  One drug death is one too many.  It took strength and courage for this group to stand along the highway and displaying their messages.  I am very proud of each of you and our community is proud of your efforts.

If you have not done so take the time to call your doctor or hospital and ask to get in for a cardio scan, last I knew it is $50 bucks through Saint Lukes and only takes a few minutes but shows your doctor where an plaque buildup is in your arteries and could save your life.

In closing, I personally want to say Thank You to my family, Thank You to my co-workers and community and THANK YOU to the almighty above.  Please stay positive, smile and give a hug or a pat on the back to another person today.  God Bless.
