Updates on Court Security and Requirements

Happy Friday and I would like to update everyone on new requirements we have at the courthouse for anyone attending court.  As you know we already cannot allow electronics, cell phones, weapons, pepper spray, pocket knives, drinks and food, bags or purses into the Court rooms.

Adding to this list we can no longer can allow anyone appearing or attending court, including prospective jurors, to be in possession of a smart watch or similar device.

We understand this may seem trivial to some but there are very important reasons behind all these requirements.  Smart watches can be used for communication purposes, be distractions to the user or others, and used to record proceedings which is a violation of court rules.

All this is to increase the safety and security for everyone and not interfere with court processes.  A perfect example would be if a juror was paying more attention to their smart watch versus the criminal trial.  If the defendant were found guilty he/she could potentially request a new trial.

Please understand there is a specific purpose for our requirements.  It may not make sense at the moment but the bigger picture has been well planned out.  So please keep the above items secured either at home or in your vehicle when you come to the courthouse as it may save you an unwanted trip back to your vehicle.

We Appreciate Your Cooperation and Understanding!
