Pleasing Results With Our Website

Power of Information and the Internet

information is knowledge, knowledge is power

As you know in late January 2012, we launched the Livingston County Sheriff’s website at www.livcoso.org  since that time we have added a few features to our website which has made it even more useful to the public and media.  The basic principle behind having our website has consistently been to quickly disseminate information to our citizens in efforts to increase safety and security for our community.

On the night of July 04, we had two men escape from our jail.  Literally within one hour of their escape the sheriff had the suspect’s information and their photos on the website which automatically went to all area media and citizens who have signed up on our alerts section.  The same information simultaneously went to our Facebook page and went to nearly 2,000 viewers on social media.

I firmly believe that due to diligent police work from all the officers involved in addition to quickly sharing the information with the public and media is what helped us arrest both men and return them to confinement in our jail within 24 hours.

On the night of July 4th the Livingston County E-911 Dispatchers and the dispatchers for the Chillicothe Police received many tips and reports of sightings.  While searching in Chillicothe it seemed that literally everyone knew who and what we were looking for.  There were many people who were sitting outside and keeping a watch for these fugitives.  This helped us locate and arrest one suspect the night of the 4th.

On July 5th we spent the day with Linn County Sheriff Tom Parks and his staff in conducting follow-up investigation and searched for Bobby Waddle in Linn County and Brookfield.  While there I was very impressed with the number of people who commented they were already aware of the information on our website or a friend had sent them the information from Facebook or a text message from our website.  The second fugitive was caught the late afternoon of July 5th and he allegedly told us how difficult it was for him as everyone knew he was wanted.  I learned that some of his trusted friends had turned him away as everyone knew law enforcement was actively looking for the fugitive.

With the website we also have the ability to see our web stats.  Just during the month of July 2012 we have 8,093 unique visits (being individual IP addresses) with a total number of visits being 24,808.  The total visits just for July 5th during the search for Bobby Waddle, we logged over 4,000 visits to our website.  The month of July also showed the 24,808 visits viewed a total of 299,216 pages and our website had a total of 1,409,863 hits on the Internet.

Our website has been a hit on helping us catch people with Livingston County warrants either on our Most Wanted section or Arrest Warrant notice.  We have people clearing up their warrants with the Court, we have increased the number of wanted persons who surrender to us, and the numbers of tips has been amazing on the whereabouts of wanted persons.  We have provided tips to several area states and other agencies on the locations of fugitives and other criminal activity which may be going on in this or other jurisdictions.

On behalf of all of us at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, we thank you for your support, information, and overwhelming response to our website.  You have allowed it to be a significant success.  As previously stated the intention was and is to increase our ability to share information and activities with the public.  After all we do work for you and we greatly appreciate being here.

Thank you and Be Safe,
