February 11, 2018 the LCSO began investigating a residential burglary and theft of a vehicle from a residence on Highway C. During the night the home which fortunately was not occupied at the time of the forced entry. Investigation shows person(s) apparently spent some time in the home and then stole a 2015 GMC pickup and left the area.

Investigation received assistance from On-Star and tracked the vehicle to a location in Kansas where the vehicle was stopped and then not allowed to start again.

The LCSO worked with various authorities in Kansas and the Linn County Missouri Sheriff on this investigation. Kansas authorities arrested Ronald Duane Smith, 28, homeless, on an unrelated Linn County Missouri arrest warrant and Mr. Smith was extradited back to Missouri by Linn County Sheriff and incarcerated on their warrant.

The LCSO has received a Livingston County arrest warrant for Ronald Duane Smith, 28, for 2 alleged felony violations being class D felony Burglary 2nd degree and class D felony Tampering with Motor Vehicle in 1st degree. Bond was set at $25,000 case on case #18-CR00084 with warrant dated February 15, 2018.
