Incidents:

March 06 the LCSO began an investigation of a reported attempted burglary in Utica. Victim reported someone attempted to enter a locked building and some of the trim was damaged during the process. Investigation continues.

March 16 the LCSO located and assisted a potentially suicidal person in going to a professional care center for additional treatment.

March 18 the LCSO was summoned to a reported domestic disturbance where a male and female both have a significant history of arguments. Evidence at the scene did not support an arrest and the parties separated.

March 20 the LCSO investigated a call of possible theft in progress at a location in Utica and determined the matter was a civil dispute on a probate case.

March 21 the LCSO began an investigation of credit card fraud and possible identity theft. The local victims had a credit card account illegally accessed by someone in Russia. The card was used to purchase items at least twice and for a total of over $200. The card has been closed. There is no chance anyone will be identified for prosecution.

March 21 Deputy Sheriff/School Resource Officer Mike Lewis filed a report with our office of a student at CHS allegedly in possession of an alcoholic beverage. The student was released to the parent(s) and the report is being submitted to the prosecuting attorney for consideration.

March 22 Deputy Sheriff/School Resource Officer Mike Lewis filed a report with our office regarding an investigation that began at the Chillicothe High School. A student reportedly was making inappropriate acts during school hours. Parent(s) and juvenile officer have been notified.

March 22 we began an investigation of Littering at a creek on Liv 306. Potential suspect information has been obtained and we are still attempting to contact the owner of the trash as they have moved from the area. Investigation continues.

March 27 Deputy Sheriff/School Resource Officer Mike Lewis filed 2 reports with this office regarding different families who are not regularly sending their children to school. Attendance letters have been sent but apparently ignored and the report is being sent to Prosecuting Attorney Adam Warren for consideration of charges.

March 27 the LCSO continued with the investigation of alleged burglary/attempted burglary where the suspect was found by K-9 Zaki. The LCSO executed a search warrant on a vehicle and recovered alleged stolen property. The LCSO has been able to confirm the actual owner of the recovered property.

March 27 Deputy Sheriff/School Resource Officer Mike Lewi filed a report with this office regarding a student at the Chillicothe Middle School allegedly creating a disturbance in the office after having problems in class. The student was removed to the sheriff’s office where the child was released to the parent(s) with additional information. The matter is being referred to the Juvenile Office.

March 28 the LCSO investigated a possible child abuse complaint. The incident was found to not be a criminal violation and information was shared with the Division of Family Services.

The LCSO is continuing an on-going investigation with alleged animal neglect in the northwest part of the county. The prosecuting attorney has consistently given guidance and other alternatives are also being pursued.

 

Arrests:

March 16 the LCSO arrested Drew Anthony Braden, 18, Ludlow on a Livingston County arrest warrant for alleged class E felony Harassment-1st Degree. Mr. Braden was transferred to the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail in lieu of bond.

March 19 the LCSO arrested Benjamin Cody Smith, 22, Chillicothe for alleged class B felony Burglary in 1st degree and class D felony Stealing-Controlled Substance/Meth Manufacturing Materials. Bond was set at $25,000 cash. Mr. Smith was transferred to the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail in lieu of bond.

March 26 the LCSO arrested Sommer Ann Brewster, 21, Kansas City on a Livingston County arrest warrant for alleged Violation of Bond Conditions on original charge of class E felony Deliver of Controlled Substance. Ms. Brewster was released after a Court appearance.

March 27 the LCSO arrested Matthew Brett Curtis, 27, Chillicothe, who surrendered to our office on a Livingston County arrest warrant for alleged class E felony DWI-Physical Injury. Mr. Curtis posted bond and was released with a Court date.

 

Citations:

March 20 an excessive speed citation was issued to an Independence MO driver for 85 in a 65 on U.S. 36 and Liv 251.

March 21 a citation for no auto insurance was issued to a Chillicothe driver.

March 25 a speeding citation was issued to a North Carolina driver for 85 in a 65 on U.S. 36 at Highway 249.

March 25 a speeding citation was issued to a Kansas City driver for 80 in a 65 on U.S. 36 at Highway D.

March 29 an excessive speed citation was issued to an Illinois driver for 90 in a 65 on U.S. 36 near Grand River.

March 29 an excessive speed citation was issued to an Illinois driver for 88 in a 65 on U.S. 36 near the Grand River.

  

Additional Information:

March 26 the LCSO was busy with Criminal Law in Circuit Court where we had 7 detainees appear before Circuit Judge Thomas N. Chapman and 1 detainee appear before Associate Judge James P. Valbracht.

March 28 the LCSO was swamped with Court all day as we had 23 detainees appear before Associate Judge James P. Valbracht.

On or about March 28 the LCSO received Court orders to cause detainee Charles Brandon Collins, 35, Chillicothe to be transferred to the Missouri Department of Corrections for Probation Violation - Possession Controlled Substance - 5 years.

 

The LCSO has remained busy with a variety of on-going criminal investigations, fugitive investigations, assisting other agencies, recruiting employees, and other statutory and administrative duties.

 

Currently the LCSO has 29 persons in custody at the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail, 3 of which are female detainees.
