August 09 the LCSO received information from a local resident of another local resident having had their email account hacked. The Scammer(s) then notified several people on the victims email of request for money to be placed on a card for the victims child and went on to give information the sender was not able to talk for a while. Being a good friend of the victim the reporting person obtained $400 in specific cards from local retailer and provided the card numbers on email. The scammers quickly collected the money and were almost certainly located outside the United States.

The email hack victim was notified by several friends and hopefully no one else will fall victim to these creeps who try every way possible to scam American citizens.

If you were a victim you are encouraged to report the loss to your local law enforcement and/or the Missouri Attorney General’s office.
