Sheriff Steve Cox attends MSA Summer Training Conference

Missouri Sheriffs' Association (MSA) held summer training conference in Springfield, MO for nearly all Missouri Sheriffs July 29 through August 02.

Training topics covered at least the following:

Use of Force in Jails.

Impact of Legalized Marijuana by a Colorado Sheriff.

Critical Incidents and Media Issues.

Below 100 (training for reducing national number of Law Enforcement Officers Killed per year).

Legal Updates.

Developing a Fitness Testing Program.

Understanding Mental Health in Youth.

Racial Profiling.

Also covered MSA Business meetings and time with vendors in the law enforcement and jail industry.

Overall this was excellent training and information useful to our area and office.

Missouri sheriffs are mandated to get 20 hours of training per year through the MSA or be fined $2000 per year.
