Being Late for Court gets Couple Arrested

09/06/2018

On September 06, 2018 about 9:00 a.m. Sheriff Steve Cox was traveling to Wheeling on U.S. 36 when a Texas vehicle was rapidly about to pass him. The vehicles speed was locked in and there were obvious problems going on inside the vehicle from the moment the occupants realized they were about to pass a law enforcement vehicle and continued to just after the stop.

Two Kansas residents were in the Texas licensed vehicle and there were various problems with the registration, insurance, and driver’s license status. Further investigation resulted in the seizure of a good amount of Methamphetamine and quantity of drug paraphernalia and distribution items. K-9 Zaki was on the way to assist but the drugs had already been found.

We arrested David Loren LaPiere, 49 and Ashley Dawn Michelle Watkins, 33 both of Arma, Kansas for the alleged drug violations. Both have since been charged in Livingston County Associate Court with alleged class D felony Possession of Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine and bond was initially set at $15,000 each.

Both explained they were in a hurry to get to court in Linn County, Missouri as one of them had a scheduled appearance. Both are now in the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail in lieu of bond.

Gabrielson's Truck Repair & Towing removed the vehicle from the scene.
