Thursday, November 07 about 11:00 a.m. Sheriff Cox was traveling west on U.S. 36 signaling to turn south onto Highway D (Mooresville Junction) when he noticed a very fast moving blue colored Toyota approaching from the rear while it was weaving between vehicles. That vehicle was checked at 109 and the radar was locked in at 107 as the vehicle slowed a bit. The Toyota was unsafely changing lanes while passing motorists.

The vehicle was stopped near U.S. 36 and Highway D and the  driver was identified as Altaf A. Talaty, 25, Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Talaty was attempting to take a passenger to St. Joseph and return to Chicago. The stop resulted in the arrest of Mr. Talaty for the alleged excessive speed of 107 in a 65 and Careless and Imprudent Driving by Endangering the Safety of Others on the Roadway due to his reckless driving in addition to the speed.

Mr. Talaty was processed at the LCSO and posted bond when he was released on citations pending Court appearance December 11, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.

Good defensive driving requires you to pay close attention to your entire surroundings. Think about it, if you are in a vehicle traveling 65 miles per hour you are moving at a rate of 95.33 feet per second. If you are in a vehicle traveling at 107 miles per hour you are moving at a rate of 156.933 feet per second. At those speeds the chances of being seriously injured or killed in an accident are greatly increased.

Please take a few minutes and talk with your children who are or are approaching driving age about the needs to be a defensive driver.

Life is short, plan ahead, be aware of your surroundings and get home safe.
