Zaki:

Earlier this week Deputy Leadbetter made a vehicle stop late at night on 36 highway on a car that was being driven as if the driver was impaired or falling asleep.  The vehicle was occupied by two men from Chicago and were returning to Chicago from Kansas City.  Several things made the deputy believe a separate crime was taking place and assistance was given by Chillicothe Police.  Zaki alerted on the vehicle for the odor of drug(s).  A search of the vehicle revealed marijuana, a hidden compartment in the trunk commonly that appeared recently used to transport a large amount of drugs and/or currency, in addition to an Uzi firearm and ammunition.  Investigation suggests occupant(s) are gang affiliates in Chicago with one man having a very violent arrest history including for homicide.  The other occupant had no criminal record and claimed ownership of everything in the vehicle, however due totality of the circumstances the firearm, ammunition and drugs were seized.  LCSO is working with NITRO-ATF Task Force on further investigation of this incident.
