Group Effort Resolves Armed Man in Suicidal Situation

07/09/2021

On the night of July 03, 2021 about 11:24 p.m. LCSO responded to a rural location along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol regarding a report of an adult male being suicidal.  Officers were unable to make contact with the subject who was inside the home but could see the man was acting strange and armed with at times two firearms being a long gun and a handgun.  Various attempts were unsuccessful at getting the man to speak with an officer.  The man had nailed boards across the doors to prevent officers from gaining entry into the home.

With the help of Emergency Dispatchers at the Law Enforcement Center they were able to speak with the man multiple times.  The man would lie about his location and was consistently told law enforcement officers were outside his home, wanting to speak with and help him.  After more than an hour the man removed a barricade and disarmed himself agreeing to talk with law enforcement.

Chillicothe Department of Emergency Services Ambulance then assisted the man who was possibly overdosing on medications.  The man was taken to HMC and has received additional services.  A Crisis Intervention Team report has also been filed to help with future services.

Fortunately this ended well with no injuries to anyone and we hope this person gets what is needed so that he no longer has these issues.  Great work by all involved from Dispatch through Health Care and Mental Health providers.
