Update on Livingston County Detainees and Housing Process

08/24/2022

As briefly reported August 17 our office has moved all our detainees from the Daviess Dekalb Regional Jail.

Missouri law places the county sheriff with the custody and care of detainees and in addition to legal requirements, we also have budgets and other issues to consider with the overall care and needs of our detainees.

The majority of detainees we house are male and the closest facility is Caldwell County, which has an amazing jail facility but only holds male detainees.  Utilizing Caldwell County Jail for the majority of our male detainees cuts our transport time and fuel in half.  The majority of our men were moved to Caldwell County, with exception of 3 who were either sentenced or have jury trial scheduled around November and those 3 are housed at Harrison County, which saves us $450 a month in housing.  Harrison County Detention Center is also a very nice and secure facility.  Harrison County is also holding 5 of our female detainees which saves us which saves us an additional $700 per month in housing.  The remainder of the female detainees are being housed in Randolph County Detention Center which is also an amazing facility and is currently saving us $1200 per month in housing.

All three county jails utilize WebEx with the courts, which is basically court over the internet, and minimizes our transports and trips to court.  It should also be noted that often times a few detainees do not get along with certain other detainees and have to be separated or they are co-defendants in criminal cases and the courts have ordered they not have contact with specific people.  This is another great reason to use multiple facilities and minimizes friction in the jail cells while upholding court orders.

We have updated our website, www.livcoso.org, to show where each detainee is being held.  If you click on the "Inmates" tab you will see in the "charges" area not only the alleged violation(s) but where the individual is being held.  Additional updates to our website are pending.

Caldwell County Detention Center website is https://www.caldwellco.missouri.org/detention-center/ with the address being 280 W. Main, Kingston, MO, telephone 816-586-5245.

Harrison County Sheriff's Office website is https://www.harrisoncountysheriffmo.org/ with an address of P.O. Box 168, 1501 Central Street, Bethany, MO 64424.

Randolph County Sheriff's Office website is http://www.randolphcountysheriffmo.com/home.html with the address being 372 Highway JJ, Huntsville, MO 65259.

Citizens are also encouraged to use Vine Link being vinelink.com where you can search many states to check the location of people in custody along with a great deal more information and register for updates.  This is a great tool to use and we encourage you to check it out.

We greatly appreciate the sheriffs and staff at Caldwell County, Harrison County and Randolph County working with us and caring for our detainees.  We also want to thank the Daviess-Dekalb Jail Board for their past relationship with our office and wish them the best going forward.

At the end of the day I am responsible for the custody and care of our detainees and we are very pleased with these changes.

Respectfully,

Sheriff Steve Cox
