Stand-Off Situation on Arrest Attempt

12/05/2023

On Friday, December 01, 2023 about 2:45 p.m. LCSO staff was in the 300 block of E. Jackson in Chillicothe on felony warrant service attempt.

Deputies were able to make it into the home to arrest an adult male but the male chose to resist arrest and fled into a bathroom and locked the door.  The fugitive claimed he was armed with a knife and was not going back to prison.  The male made comments about making law enforcement kill him or he would take his own life.

Officer(s) from the Chillicothe Police came to assist and the Chillicothe Department of Emergency Services was summoned to stand by in event they were needed.

Deputy Jennifer Plummer continued attempts to de-escalate the situation and after around 15 minutes we believe the suspect ingested illegal drug(s) and then agreed to come out peacefully.  The male was taken into custody and soon displayed symptoms of overdose, which were countered by emergency responders providing Narcan to the person.

Subject treated, released and taken to jail where mental health professional(s) were involved with subject and a Crisis Intervention Team report submitted.

Additional evidence of alleged controlled substance possession and drug paraphernalia possession seized at the scene.  Report being submitted to the prosecuting attorney for consideration.

Fortunately this incident ended without anyone being seriously injured.  It is unfortunate the toll drugs take on society and every community.  We appreciate the assistance from the CPD and CDES.
