Changing of the Guard Notice

06/19/2024

On June 18, 2024 the command staff and I met with the Livingston County Commission where I informed them effective immediately I was going to close out my office, establish my retirement and shall be on medical leave through August 31, 2024 as my first day of retirement will be September 01, 2024.

I have notified the commission and my staff that Dustin Woelfle is now in charge at the LCSO and I am available to assist him with any administrative needs he may experience.  Dustin Woelfle is a great person and will be an absolutely amazing sheriff.  Dustin is the only person on the ballot for sheriff in both August and November and I would expect he will be named actual "sheriff" beginning September 01, 2024.  I have given my resignation notice to County Clerk Sherry Parks who will notify our Governor.  I have complete faith in the staff at the LCSO.  We have very good and well-trained people who truly care about our citizens and community.

THANK YOU for allowing me to serve here in Livingston County as a deputy, in Chillicothe as a police officer and then permitting me to enjoy an amazing career which I am now in my 24th year as your sheriff.  It has been an honor.

It is now time for me to follow the path being shown by the good Lord above, my amazing wife, and my cardiologist team.

Be safe, enjoy each day, and support your local sheriff as they are your last voice in law enforcement.

Respectfully,

Steve Cox
